The most important mosque in Iraq after Karbala and Najaf, Kadhimain contains the shrines of two Shia Imams — Musa al-Kadhim and Mohammed al-Jawad. Its gold-coated domes and minarets, built in 1515 and subsequently enlarged, dominate the Kadhimiya neighborhood north of Baghdad, drawing pilgrims from across the Islamic world.
