600 years to build a cathedral inside a castle that was already ancient — Prague didn't rush into anything.

The world's largest castle complex by area, a sprawling ensemble of palaces, churches and gardens perched above Prague on the left bank of the Vltava. St Vitus Cathedral inside the complex took 600 years to complete and its stained glass windows include an Art Nouveau panel by Alfons Mucha. Approaching via the Royal Route from Old Town or descending through the gardens to Malá Strana gives very different impressions of the same complex.
